Where Am I? No. 208 - Overseas Large House

As mentioned on SpiderMonkey's WAI thread No. 3, these buildings appear quite similar, so I thought everyone could keep an eye out for both.  Spidermonkey's is here:

Mine is a postcard sent to a lady in Kent and on the back it reads:

"This is the front view of the house with the ocean just at the back.  It's getting very warm over here now.  Will write again soon".

Sadly no stamp and unable to read the post mark, but think I can make out Jun 16.

There are statues of lions on the steps which immediately makes me think of Singapore but…. :-\

There is an interesting blog post here http://remembersingapore.org/2012/02/08/grand-mansions-bungalows-villas-of-the-past/  but I can't see anything quite like the house you posted.

Just had a look, but I can't see anything similar either.  I've just had an idea with mine.  I'm going to see if I can find where it originated from by searching for the stamp box.

I've found the stamp box but it just says it dates from 1904 - 1918, I think the post mark is 16, so presuming 1916.

I'll scan the back and post it, but the place name is so feint and blurred but someone might make something of it.

I don't think it is Singapore. I lived there for 4 years and don't recall seeing anything like this building.

Could the postcard have been sent by a soldier on foreign service?

It could be Egypt or India?
