Whitehead traveling to the UK
« on: Thursday 06 August 15 17:30 BST (UK) »
Why would anyone travel from the Americas to the UK between the years 1700 - 1800?

Thanks,
Robert

Many reasons. Business interests. (There were plenty of merchants with offices on both sides of the pond). I have seen some who came back to look after elderly relatives or to take over a farm they had unexpectedly inherited. Officials going on leave etc.

1775–1783. Maybe came to the UK to live under the british crown (Maybe was being persecuted in the States)

The consensus of scholars is that about 15–20% of the white population remained loyal to the British Crown

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth
