Catherine Hudson Baptism Brick Wall!
« on: Thursday 06 August 15 21:58 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am having trouble finding the baptism of my 4x gt grandmother Catherine Hudson (1765/66 - 1853).

She married Newton Harrison in Throckmorton in 1794 & settled in Bricklehampton where they had 9 children. From her marriage onwards I know all about.

In 1841 her age is shown as 75 (therefore born 1765/66) & born in Worcs.

In 1851 her age is shown as 84 (therefore born 1766/67) & born in Eckington, Worcs.

She died on 20th July 1853 aged 87 (therefore born 1765/66) in Pershore Union Workhouse.

The ages given are all consistent & suggesting that she was born around 1765 to 1767.

I do have a baptism in my notes, which I probably got off the IGI at some point in time, but this does not appear on familysearch now as I can no longer find it on there. The date in my notes is born 1770 & baptised 16th April 1772. As you will no doubt notice this is however 6 or 7 years too early!

From memory other family trees (I am unable to access such at present!) have her parents as John & Mary Hudson (Nee' Brewer). They are baptising 3 children that I can find between 1764 & 1768 (Sarah in 1764, Joseph in 1765 & Josiah in 1768) in Eckington that I can find but no Catherine. John & Mary married in Eckington in 1763. Also these 4 events for these Hudson's are the only Hudson events that I can find in Eckington at this time.

Am I barking up the wrong tree with the Hudson/Brewer family? Were there other Hudson families in Eckington at this time? But most importantly when was Catherine baptised & who were her parents?

Any help with sorting out this over 20 year old brick wall will be be very gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

If Catherine was born 1765/66 she should appear there, so perhaps it is the wrong family, especially as you have Joseph in 1765.

Hi Jan,

That is a very fair point that you make. However Joseph was baptised 10th Feb 1765, there is still therefore plenty of time/space for a late 1765 & 1766 birth between Joseph's & Josiah's births/baptisms. Also as I pointed out I couldn't find any other Hudson's baptising children at that time in Eckington.

I am not ruling anything in or out at present having not got anywhere with this line in over twenty years! :) :-X ;D

Kind regards

David

Hi,

Hmmm, having noted in my original post that the baptism that I had in my notes from the IGI for Catherine no longer appears on familysearch. I have now noticed that the marriage between Catherine & Newton Harrison in Throckmorton in 1794 isn't appearing on familysearch either!

Why are entries, in this case a baptism & a marriage, which were on the old IGI now not existing on familysearch? Anyone any ideas?

Could sks check the marriage for me please, as if this marriage doesn't exist, then I have a slight spanner in the works as it were!

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Hi Phil,

Many thanks for your replies, very much appreciated.

Many thanks indeed for your very kind offer to look at the parish registers for me it is very much appreciated.

The baptism of Mary that you found is indeed one of Catherine & Newton's children, their 7th to be precise! They had their nine children between 1795 & 1810. The baptisms show that the children were born to parents Newton & Catherine or Newton & Cattern. Looks like they may have lost their first child though. Jane Harrison bapt 7th March 1795 as the next two children were baptised on the same day & being named Jane & Newton Harrison on 19th March 1797.

My thanks again for your kind help & assistance.

Kind regards

David
