Confirming residency in Oldham, Lancashire...help please

My ancestors worked for the ordnance survey. They moved A LOT. They were in Ireland as of 1839 and Scotland as of 1846. Never knew where they were in between UNTIL...

I happened upon a parish birth record on the OPR Lancashire site:

Baptism: 24 Sep 1843 St Mary RC, Oldham, Lancs.
Jas. Moore - [Child] of Denis Moore & Bridget (formerly Law?)
    Born: 12 Jun 1843
    God Parents: Math. Toll; Mary Mitchel
    Notes: [mother's surname is obscured by tight binding]
    Parents' Marital Status: con.
    Baptised by: Edmd. Hogan
    Register: Baptisms 1829 - 1852, Entry 1
    Source: Original Register at LRO Preston

With a name like Moore, the only way to determine if these are my family is to confirm the mother's maiden name of Law. Else, I cannot confirm they were in Lancashire during this period and James Moore was theirs.

The Ordnance Survey was mapping Lancashire at the time so this would make sense for them to be there. As I live in the U.S. and cannot take my own shot at viewing the actual record to confirm the Law surname of the mother, I'm looking for other ways to confirm their residency. I cannot locate them in the 1841 census.

Would anyone have any suggestions? It's quite important in my search

Hi Brenda

The original records are held at the Lancashire Record Office at Preston so why not email them to see if they could have another look to see if they can see Bridget's Maiden name. Explain you are in the US so can't do it in person.

I've searched the 1841 under every spelling I could think of and like you I couldn't see the family anywhere in the country.
