Another challenge

Hope I'm correctly linking to this.

http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632015#page/30/mode/1up

Right hand side, about half way down (21st Oct). It says Margaret of Pat then crossed out and John put in. Can anyone make out the surname of the father and mother and what the underlined thing says  ???

While you're at it, compare to this for Bekan RC parish, left hand side, three-quarters way down the page, 27th January 1835, maybe related:

Hi to both of you.
Where it say's....
Married to Ellen ?????
this means, that James who was Baptised at that church on that date married Ellen some years later.
Years ago you had to get a letter of freedom to marry from your Parish Priest. The PP would note next to the Baptism who they married.
I have many of my records like this, but as luck would have it I have copes of 2 freedom letters.
I know someone who had to get a letter of Freedom in 1969.
ok, I hope this has helped.

You still have to get a letter of freedom, you are meant to get one from every parish you have lived it for more that 6 months since you were 18, of course most only get one from the parish they were baptised in, it prevents bigamy.

Generally women don't need one, if you marry in the parish you were baptised in the priest will know you didn't already marry in that church or look for a letter to marry in any other parish.
