Barbara Sneyd, St Edwards asylum, 1906 - 1956
« on: Sunday 09 August 15 16:01 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me with information about Barbara Sneyd, who was committed to St Edwards in 1906 and died there in 1956.  Details of medical records would be most helpful, but any information would be appreciate.
Kind regards, stevie Corbett

Hi Stevie,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

You could email the Staffordshire CC who hold the records for St Edwards -

http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/leisure/archives/contact/sro/Sources/home.aspx

I see that probate for Barbara was granted to Cecilia Mary Mathieu £1974 9s 4d.

Link to a request for patient information from North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust, which could be of help to you. However the request is from 2013.

Hi JJ,

You were so helpful the other day, can I trouble you again? Do you know why Barbara was committed?  Stevie

Hi Stevie,

Unfortunately I do not have that type of information available to me. I have checked for newspaper articles relating to Barbara and have drawn a blank.

As previously mentioned the best course of action would be to contact those listed above who may be able to help you with records of Barbara's admission.

Regards

JJ

Hi, Stevie:

You may already be familiar with this, but there is a book (still available on Amazon as of October, 2017) containing Barbara's letters, diary entries and watercolor paintings done between the years of 1896 and 1903. It does give a few hints about what might have happened and how she wound up in St. Edwards. No definitive explanation, though.
