Hi John

Welcome to Rootschat. The CWGC have this death in 1918 - http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/541096/DEEGAN,%20M%20J

As you can see he died in France. The 1st Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers were in India until 1915.

Was James' mother's maiden name Reddy? If so you can order the certificate using the information here - http://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=bmd%2fovs%2fabr2%2f002378&parentid=bmd%2fovs%2fabr2%2f002378%2f021&highlights=%22%22

You should get the moderator to move this to Armed services if there is a military aspect to this; or to Beginners if civilian. You will get more people involved that way.

Ken

Hi John
I have a Michael J Deegan on my tree born 1882 in Dublin, son of Michael Deegan b. 1849.
Michael J Deegan's brother Thomas F Deegan 1891-1915 married Frances B Reddy in Dublin in 1912.  After Thomas's death Frances married John O'Brien in 1919 Dublin South.  Would love to hear from you if you think there may be a connection.
Kind regards
Pippa
