Eureka Hotel, King Street, Truro
« on: Tuesday 11 August 15 19:52 BST (UK) »
I've just found out today that my great grandfather Richard Webb died at The Eureka Hotel, King Street, Truro on 13 December 1908.  I am trying to find out if he was the owner of the hotel but have not been able to find anything on the internet.  Has anyone come across this hotel at all in their research?

Hard to tell if he owned it or was Landlord from this;

"West Briton and Cornwall Advertiser 17 December 1908
After a long illness of paralysis following on hemorrhage (sic), the death of Mr Richard Webb 42 of Eureka Hotel, King St, Truro occurred on Sunday. Funeral took place Wed 16th, the cortege leaving from the house"

Was he there in 1901 as it would probably say Proprietor rather than Inn Keeper I would think  :-\

Maybe someone else will have a better idea from what's written  ;)

Would you like the rest which was written with family names  ???

Hi ammack

You have quoted what I saw yesterday in the West Briton and Cornwall Advertiser.  I knew my gt grandparents had a shop/restaurant in King Street in the early 1900's called 'Webb' but this  newspaper report is the first time I've seen the property called 'Eureka Hotel'.  I've not been able to find any other information on it on the internet etc but knew my grandmother ran a restaurant, shop after her husband died and wondered it could have been an hotel before his death.

Did that newspaper article give other family members names?

Thanks to everyone for your help.  My grandmother's name was Fanny Webb.  The newspaper report gives family members and also names of other family who attended the funeral.  I don't think  the business in King Street had a number at that time.
