Memorial Inscriptions and photographs of graves
« on: Thursday 13 August 15 12:00 BST (UK) »
Hello

Does anyone know where I can find pictures of certain gravestones from the graveyards of Walton and Brampton, as well as memorial inscriptions?

I am focusing on the Steele families buried there

thanks

Can see some entries for St Marys Churchyard Walton but nothing for Steele unfortunately.

How about creating memorials on FIND A GRAVE for the Steele members you want ?

It explains here -  How to submit a photo request.  Hope this helps.

Only 1 listed for Brampton Carlisle

thanks Sandra

A lot of Steeles were buried at Walton according to a book I have, so its a matter of being transcribed online. I had a look at the Cumbria Family History Society and it looks like they have Brampton memorial inscriptions available for purchase, however there is nothing for Walton yet

Many of the burials in Brampton (St Martin's and Brampton Old Church) are indexed on familysearch.org under batch number I03934-7 according to this thread - December 2013

Hi
These are the only Steel entries in the index for Brampton gravestones.
Steel   Alice   1883   Wetheral   Wife of James H Steel
Steel   James 1947
Steel   Jane   1912
Steel   Jessie Alice Mary 1966
Steel   Mary Jane   unknown Daughter of James Steel

I have photos of all the gravestones at Brampton, taken when we recorded the MIs so if there are any in particular you want I can send you a copy

Looks like Alice Steele was Alice Hetherington according to a piece on this site

Alice Steele (nee Hetherington) was born in 1854 (1854 quarter 1, Brampton, folio 10b page 308) in Brampton, Cumbria. She was married to James Henry Steele, born in Hayton in 1856, in 1877 (1877 quarter 3, Gateshead, folio 10a page 878). They had a daughter  Alice Maud, born in 1878 (1878 quarter 4, Cockermouth, folio 10b page 560). In 1881 they were living at 34 Fleming Street, Crosscannoby, Cumberland. James was a draper. Alice died in 1883 (1833 quarter 4, Carlisle, folio 10b page 287), aged 29 years.
