I'm searching for exact birth parents of my great grandfather, MILES, Thomas and at one point in his life he was the Captain of the Stirlingshire.

What I know for sure:-

b. 23 Dec 1819 Leith Midlothian Scotland
Baptism 16 Jan 1820 South Leith
d. 31 May 1879 Footscray Melbourne Australia

First marriage to THORNS, Ann on 19 Feb 1849,
which produced four children.

Second marriage to McDONALD, Maria on 18 Aug 1858
which produced 10 children.

Where I'm getting stuck and confused is I keep coming across a

Miles, Thomas married to Doughty, Mary
-OR-
Miles, Thomas married to Preist, Ann.

Confident I'm not reading something correctly.

Any help or suggestions?
