Hi Catherine,

Not sure what you mean with " new Owens"  ???

The marriage for William will be on Scotlandspeople.gov.uk site which is a Pay Per View with initial £7 cost for 30 credits = 23p each.

It will cost you 1 credit for the index & when you download it the cost will be 5 credits which in total will be £1.38

The marriage cert. will give the names of both their parents.

Presumably that is meant to be nee Owens.  :)

So Catherine is looking for a William Fraser / Mary Owens marriage.

Owens is usually a Welsh surname, so maybe later that branch will lead you there.

You will need to register with Scotlands People http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Hi

What is the source for your marriage information?  If you don't already have it then getting a copy of the birth registration for Bessy would be helpful as that should have date and place of parents marriage.

Catherine, I think Annie is suggesting that you be flexible with the spelling of the surname as mistakes are often made.

In the past spellings were not as important as they are today, people were not as literate, and did not check official documents.

Even today mistakes are still made as you are probably aware, so best to keep an open mind regarding spellings.  :)

Hi

Bessie was only 7 in the 1911 census which suggests she was born 1903-1904. The closest match on Scotlandspeople for an Edinburgh birth was in 1905
