Welcome to rootschat.

You'll need to give us a few dates.....date of birth, date & age & location of death if known, date & place of marriage if known etc. Where is 'Hattingh'? Is this what you meant to type? Is it in the UK or elsewhere?

Don't forget that details of living persons cannot be posted here.

Not sure if this helps but a quick Google shows that Hattingh can be a surname; seems to be found in South Africa.

Perhaps that was Eve's maiden name.   :-\

My mother was Eve Josephine Hattingh born 1930 in Durban SA she died in Mbabane Swaziland in 1971. She had 2 brothers - John and Steven and a sister that died early in life. I have no information on my grandparents and would like to find out some background, he was known to us as John and my granny was Mabel, but don't know if this was their baptism names or what,  on his war medal the initials are JJ Hattingh. The brother John was a chef and the last I heard he was living in England. any help would be appreciated.

I will ask a moderator to move this to the South Africa board where you might find more help.

 - this is her marriage in 1953.

I think the witnesses ("G and JC Nel") are this couple who married earlier the same year:

 (compare the signatures)

What medals do you have for her father - WWI? Is his service number/unit listed on the back or rim of the medal?

Nothing on the medals, then? Can you confirm which ones he received?

Unfortunately NAAIRS is not behaving itself for me right now but there might be something there about "M. Hattingh, d. 1962".

There was a Pieter Johannes Hattingh b. 1921 Durban, a merchant seaman originally, settled in London by 1953 (married) and died in 1972, does this sound like it could be brother "John"?  If so there are living descendants.
