the old school in Aldringham
« on: Tuesday 18 August 15 09:04 BST (UK) »
can someone tell me whether this school is still there .
It is the headmasters house I am interested in  from 1914 to 1938 when my grandparents lived  in it   and were caretakers of the old school.
If it is still there can someone tell me the name of the road.
Thanks

Hi maggie may

There is a map of Aldringham here
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01fxj/

if that link doesn't work, search for Aldringham here
http://maps.nls.uk/index.html

the school is behind the vicarage, I can see a building there on Google maps, but the street view doesn't go down the lane.

There is a photo of Aldringham school here

I seem to be having trouble with the maps .
what road actually is the  old school in .? if I knew that I maybe able to pick it off as when I googled it came up Mill Lane, school road and saw alsorts of homes etc on the street view.
I did look at one and got a street it had a grass cutting thru it to another street and could see two houses there so not  sure whether it is what you told me or not.
I maybe able to pick it up from the arial shot . The last link is very interesting with the history of Aldringham .
Sorry have not answered earlier but been away at my daughters for a night.

thanks .

Hi

X marks the spot, the school was situated down a foot path so you cannot view it from street view..

I could possibly snatch a picture if you like, I live about 2 miles away from there. I recall a couple of years back a field liberally strewn with poppies near there. An amazing sight if you like that sort of thing....

Hi Guys , Been away and just picked up your messages . Would love a photo of the old school house if you can get one but it may be a hard thing to get as believe the house is owned by the church and been rented out and since down a right away permission may have to be asked by the tenant to get one. I will be in the area  briefly early August to look at  a grave  in the local church and hopefully with a church member can get to see the school house properly . It will mean quite  a lot to us to see it since  we have a family story connecting our   family to this property .
Must wish everyone on here a happy new year as well

Cheers
