David SADDLER, Born Bolton, Lancashire, C1827/1828

Hello,

David SADDLER was transported as an "Exile" to Williamstown, Port Phillip, Victoria, arriving on 28/01/1848 to complete his 7 year sentence.   His father, also David, was an Army pensioner but mother unknown.

No details are available for the next 14 years until possibly he migrates from Victoria aboard the Bella Marina in September 1862 bound for Port Chalmers in NZ.  Can anyone help with  information about him after that date please?

Did you have his name on a passenger list maybe, for the "Bella Marina" voyage to NZ ?

It's okay ... can see a "David SADDLER - 35 years - Bella Marina - SEP 1862 - to Port Chalmers" on the PRO Victoria passenger lists.

Not finding a death in New Zealand for him though (SADDLER / SADLER).   Will look elsewhere.

I wonder if this could be him on the 1841 census in Folds Rd, Bolton: -

in the household of Samuel Hough & family

David Saddler 10, cotton "bill...."  (billy tenter on criminal record)
Elizabeth Saddler 10
James Saddler, 15 cotton stripper?  all not born in county.
