unknown group in Islington maybe the Sutton Family?
« on: Wednesday 19 August 15 12:32 BST (UK) »
Not sure whether this the right board to post this on ...

I love this photo although I have no idea who the people are. I love the different collar heights, ties, bow tie, lack of tie, 1 lack of lady's gloves, some looking casual some more formal. Whilst the photo was with my grandmother's photos and I guess dates around 1900-1910 (? - please correct me if I'm wrong! the photo is stuck on plain dark green card with nothing on the back), I think it's in Islington, but my mother seems convinced it's in Ickford (my grandmother spent time in both). Any suggestions?

Also, any idea what the group may be? 4 women and 11 men, some looking better off than others? My g grandfather had something to do with very early cars, and my g grandmother was a servant in a vicarage if that helps at all? (Possibly the lady in the middle with the big lace collar could be my young g grandmother, although hard to say for sure)

Any help would be most appreciated

The two chaps sitting on the right (as you look) look very Lord of the Manor don't they.  Looks like a white marble statue next to the one on the right but ordinary houses to the left.  No manor house.

The four blokes you can see, all seem to be wearing plus-fours. Possibly some sort of recreational event - shooting? cycling?

The background very much looks like a park, I thought possibly a cycling club or Bowling Club.

One of the chaps seem to have a medal with "A" on a chain, could this be an award or something ? Is there any change of a larger picture of the medal ?

Sarah :)

The table seems to be a bit incongruous in the park setting - and the ladies hats all look very similar.

I would agree with the date offered...Edwardian Cabinet Card....but the occasion could be anything from a sports event to a charabanc outing  ::)
I thought the part of the statue could have been the 3 Graces but the part of the lady that is showing appears to be clothed...there is another statue in the middle distance of a male.
I agree with Sarah....the medallions could be scanned at a resolution of 400-600dpi

Most or all of them look to be quite young, so I wonder if there might be some kind of sports connection? Alternatively, the men's clothing looks to me to be a mixture of smart and casual/unconventional, rather than working clothes, so might they be students?
