Daniel Hughes B:1851 LLansamlet
« on: Wednesday 19 August 15 13:07 BST (UK) »
My GG Grandfather Daniel Hughes.
I am trying to find more information on him.
So far I have him baptized 23/12/1851 Llansamlet, Neath, I have him living with his parents 1861 census and I have his marriage in 1875 Swansea
I went to Neath for his Birth Cert and they said they have no record even though I found it on FreeBMD
I also asked for his death cert  I believe he died in 1876 I had found a death on FreeBMD the matched but in Neath they told me mother inlaws name was wrong
If anyone can advise in anyway I would be most grateful
Regards Alan Hughes

Assuming  you are talking about Daniel Hughes married Margaret Owen father Peter. If they got married in Glantawe (in Swansea Valley), have you tried the death listed as Daniel Hughes aged 32    Pontardawe    11a   366 ?

Hi thanks for your replies
Daniel was married to Margaret Owens 1875 Swansea
Margaret was living with her mother with 9yr old Daniel in the 1881 census and is a widower
I was sure the 1876 death is the right one but Neath reg office said mother inlaw is not right one and wouldn't give me the name of the mother inlaw they have, but I did check to make sure Margaret’s mother had not remarried
I wanted the death cert because my brother has a hereditary disease and we want to check on cause of death because Daniel died so young. Daniels son Peter died age 46 in 1922 of kidney failure and gastric problems samd problems my brother is having

Findmypast has a burial for a Daniel Hughes born 1850 died 1876. It is listed as Margam (which would likely come under Neath) and could be consistent with the census entries for Daniel Hughes born Aberavon c.1849/1850 (however i cant get image to open to see if any further info available)

Can you give your 1881 for Margaret as the one i have found has a Margaret Hughes living with a 4 year old son Peter and a family of Owens

I was just wondering where people in this area (Swansea, Glamorganshire) get their Family History information from because some of the replies have come up with results that I never got on ancestry.co.uk and freeBMD

Findmypast has a number of parish registers for Wales but coverage does vary.
Also use Ancestry and Freebmd for Wales along with Welsh newspapers online.

if you're looking for the certs, you could order direct from the GRO. Although the birth was registered at Neath, bmds for Llansamlet moved to Swansea registration district in 1876, so the registers would now be kept there, not in Neath.
