Titman family of Sawtry
« on: Thursday 20 August 15 08:53 BST (UK) »
My ancestors William Glithro and Elizabeth Titman married in Yaxley in 1834. Elizabeth was born between 1806 and 1810 in Sawtry. I haven't managed to find out anything about her family. Can anyone help?
I've found a few Titmans in the right are, but haven't managed to connect them to Elizabeth. I imagine she was living in Yaxley at the time of her marriage.

Thank you! There's a good chance this is the right Elizabeth, though her age varies a bit on the censuses. I've found a member tree on ancestry which suggests that the Elizabeth you found married George Pestell, which means she's not my Elizabeth, but that researcher may have made a mistake...

George Pestell of Wood Walton married Elizabeth Titman at Abbots Ripton in 1825. Judging from censuses this Elizabeth seems to have been born in 1807 in either Abbots or Kings Ripton. As Elizabeth Glithro gives her birthplace as Sawtry I think the other tree has it wrong.

Thanks David. It looks as though I may be on the right path then...

It looks like Francis and Sarah Titman may have had more children in Kings Ripton, after the two christenings in Sawtry which Margaret found. These children are Jane 1815, Ann 1818, Luke 1820, Robert 1822. I've found a possible marriage of Jane in Huntingdon in 1840. But I can't seem to find out what happened to Francis - no sign of him in burial records or the 1841 census.

Not much help in findiing the Burial of Francis but;
William Glithro was a Witness to the Marriage of JANE Titman to Joseph YATES, 9 Nov 1840, All Saints, Huntingdon, Huntingdonshire
Janes Father was FRANCIS, Occp Labourer

Oooh, that looks promising - maybe Jane Titman is Elizabeth Titman's sister, and her brother-in-law William Glithro was a marriage witness.

I've found Jane and Joseph Yates in the 1851-1871 censuses - in 1851 she was born about 1815 Sawtry, in 1861 she was born about 1814 Kings Ripton, and in 1871 she was born about 1816 Huntingdon. Despite the place/age varying, I think it's quite likely she was the Jane Titman baptised in Kings Ripton in 1815.
So it looks like Francis and Sarah Titman had children in Sawtry, then a few more in Kings Ripton, then possibly had connections to Yaxley and Huntingdon, where Elizabeth and Jane married...
