Margaret Graham missing on 1851 and 1871 census
« on: Friday 21 August 15 21:49 BST (UK) »

Trying to find Margaret Graham and her children on the 1851 census, also Margaret on the 1871 census. Here they are in 1861 census:

Thomas Graham 1806 - Ayrshire, Scotland,  occupation: Stone mason
Margaret 1811 - County Down (maiden name Seed)
Margaret 1841 - Liverpool
Hugh 1840 - Liverpool
Thomas 1835 - Liverpool
William 1837 - Liverpool

Margaret is a widow on the 1861 census and her surname is now Chalmer, living alone with her son Hugh in Liverpool. I have found no trace of a second marriage. And by 1881 she reverts back to the surname Graham and is living with her son Hugh and his family in Liverpool.

Banks - Wick, Caithness
Dunbar - Co Antrim-Birkenhead-Liverpool
Kemp - Woodnesborough,Kent-Liverpool
Long - Ireland-Liverpool
Clarke - Ireland-Liverpool
Weldon - Dublin-Birkenhead
Thomas - LLandysilio,Anglesey-Liverpool
Roberts -Denbighshire-Liverpool
Spain-Woodnesborough, Kent
Seed - Ballyculter, Co. Down
Graham-Ayrshire-Ballyculter-Liverpool

Hiya
was there a sister Jane born 1839 ?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NVYR-BLN
Thomas  - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NNH8-B68
William -
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J9MZ-1P8
can't find Hugh
a possible other brother ,died only 2 days old - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JCPV-WYC

so - is there a clue in William FERGUSON Graham - maybe we could find that name in 1851 census and hopefully he is with his mother ?
.......................................
his marriage in 1859 - so possibly with his mother in 1851 - maybe in Kirkdale ,Liverpool
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NFFS-3XW
sorry - can't find him in 1851 census  :(
...............................................
could this be Margaret Graham in 1871 census - born 1811 Ireland ?.....Ah - this record has her as Graham - Fruit Hawker - Keyboards record has her as Grahan
she has 2 grandchildren with her - named Quin / Quinn - so - do you know whether Margaret Graham the daughter married a Quinn ?

The only marriage I can find in Liverpool of a Quinn to a Graham is in 1865
Patrick Quinn to ANNIE Graham at St Albans church ,Liverpool
so - did Thomas and Margaret also have a daughter named Annie ??

if not - that Margaret Graham aged 60 - born 1811 Ireland in the 1871 census may be a red herring

Hi

I think I might have found Margaret in the 1851 census as Margaret Fife
HO107; Piece: 2177; Folio: 502; Page: 64.  All the children from the 1841 census are there with the right ages but surnames have been mixed up a bit. Thomas & William both have their step-fathers surname, daughter Margaret is married to Richard Wilson (Welson on Ancestry Index) and somehow Hugh has been indexed as Welson
There is a marriage 18th Sept 1848 at Liverpool, Our Lady & St. Nicholas & St. Anne between Margaret Graham, a widow, father James Seed, and James Fyfe, an engineer.  The image is on Ancestry
LancashireOPC has a marriage at 23 Dec 1849 St Peter, Liverpool between Richard Wilson and Margaret Graham, father Thomas Graham, a stonemason.

thanks to your great finds - I found this
Burial: 23 Aug 1849 St John, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
James Fyfe -
    Age: 56 years
    Abode: Craven Street

so - is this the husband of Margaret Seeds / Graham ??
it would mean he was 54 /55 when he married in 1848 - what do you think ?...
ADDED- hang on - this throws a spanner in the works - did James and Margaret have a child together ??
Baptism: 22 Sep 1850 St Martin in the Fields, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
James Fyfe - [Child] of James Fyfe & Margaret
    Born: 29 May 1850
    Abode: Hornby St Court 3
    Occupation: Sailor
Andy - was there any occupation for James Fyfe on that 1848 marriage record you found ??
edited - yes - an Engineer - but is he a ships engineer ??...this would make him a Sailor ?

Hi garstonite

James Fyfe is on the 1851 census and on both his marriage and 1851 census was an Engineer.
