Woodbridge House, Knowle
« on: Saturday 22 August 15 09:29 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Does anyone have any information regarding the property known as Woodbridge House, Knowle ? Is there any way of confirming the names of the occupants in the years 1904 through to 1908, and does this property still exist? All help much appreciated.
                      Many Thanks

Slater's Directory 1880 (Historical Directories) has the address

"Woodbridge House, Brislington"

http://maps.nls.uk/view/101454663

Zoom in and you will see a Woodbridge House immediately below the first "i" in Brislington

Might this be the one you're interested in?

1904 map of same location - Woodbridge House not named. Renamed "Woodlands"?

Bristol City Council's "Know Your Place" shows a house called "Woodlands" on the 1900's map

http://maps.bristol.gov.uk/knowyourplace/
(You will need Silverlight activated)

1949 map shows both "The Woodlands" and "Woodbridge".

On West Town Lane - looks as if it could be No. 96?

Re: Know Your Place

For those who don't/won't/can't use Silverlight, try this version:

It took me a while to remember how to find it again!! ;D

Hi
Looking at the old maps in conjunction with Google maps, the location of Woodbridge House/Woodlands is approx the current junctions between Hartcliffe Way-Novers Lane and Langhill Ave.

The reference to the planning application is possibly misleading as the owner of the land isn't necessarily living in close proximity.
The first development of Woodbridge Road and  Redcatch Road is sometime between the 1904 and 1916 1:2500 OS maps shown on the www.old-maps.co.uk pages

Hi again

You may find it useful to post in Somerset as well.
The historic county boundary was the river and this area is south of the river, there may well be people on the Somerset board who don't look at the Gloucestershire one.
