« on: Saturday 22 August 15 18:03 BST (UK) »
John Mcdougall was married to my Great Great Grandmother Catherine McKeith. He died in September 1853 or 1858. I cannot find any facts on his death, where, when anything. Looking for any help available. Thanks

Hi Mary,

I take it you have seen his MI or have info. from it ???

If he died 1858 it will be recorded on SP Statuatory Deaths.

If 1853 then well it could be but not definite  ???

You don't say anything about him  ???

Hi Annie, Thanks for replying. I'm just starting on this site and am thinking as I go along.
I have a photo of the headstone in Tarbert . It gives names of offspring of Catharine and John.
I have them as tenants 1841at Culnashemrag (Census 1841 533/00 004/00 003) in South Knapdale.
1851 finds them at Avenagillen Farm, (Census 1851 533/00 005/00 005) with John in bad health.
I cannot find any trace of him after this apart from the headstone which states he was 70 at death in 1859, and this occurred " September". The 9 is difficult to verify, hence the range of dates I quoted.
I have been puzzled over all this for a while, but I don't know which way to go now.
John and Catherine were my geat great Grandparents. I would welcome any assistance.
The info on young Alexander looks to be possibly my great grandfather..... spellings do vary, don't they?!
Thanks
Mary

Okay, so the one I quoted from the Ralston site (McDOUGALL John d.1859 70 yrs) appears to be him but................you will need his death cert. to confirm this.

Do you know when his wife died  ???

I don't know how experienced you are with scotlandspeople.gov.uk but for the name you most certainly will need to use the surname variants option.

I wouldn't use the age option as it may not be him & leaving that blank will throw up others.

Hi again. What's the MI??
Catherine died on August 24th 1901, aged 101 and 11 months. 114 years ago today. 535/00 0022
children:
Alexander 12/12/1828 as noted in previous post. When he married 02/12/1862 his father was listed as deceased.
other children are as follows, but I have no birth dates confirmed yet.

Angus McDougall
1832 – 1895

Mary McDougall
1835 – 1922

Ronald McDougall
1837 – 1891

Malcolm McDougall
1840 – 1927

Lachlan McDougall
1844 – 1867
I know it's incomplete, but john's death is the one I just cannot trace.
I do use Scotland's people, but maybe just need to narrow the search a bit to one relative at a time! Can't run when learning to walk.
