Worcestershire 1851 census birthplace for Ann Griffin
« on: Sunday 23 August 15 12:59 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone, I wonder if anyone can help reading this, I'm trying to locate the claimed birthplace of Ann Griffin on the 1851 census. Anne was a daughter of Thomas and Rebecca Griffin, her father is listed as born in Great Malvern and mother in Leigh, Worcestershire (other sources indicate this as Leigh with Bransford), Ann is listed as ditto for Worcestershire, but what is that location?

Ancestry reads it as "St. Lebres", but I've not found anywhere of that name or other varient spellings. After Ann's birth subsequent children were born in Birmingham, but Ann's birthplace has always been a mystery.
Oxfordshire: SHAYLER, HERN,
Gloucestershire: MEADOWS, HERBERT,
Worcestershire: GRIFFIN, WOOD,
Denbighshire: WILLIAMS, JAMES, EDWARDS, DAVIES.

Could the first bit be St. As in Saint  or Lt. As in little?

The daughter's Ann's birthplace could just about be St Lukes??  but she appears to have been christened as St Martins https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JQZD-KXX

Kay

Edit - In 1861 Ann is listed as born in Worcester

The first entry is Worcestershire, Great Malvern, the next is Worcestershire, Leigh, the rest are also Worcestershire.

I agree with Kay,  Ann's   birthplace could be St Luke's, perhaps they had forgotten by the time they moved to Birmingham.

St martins in the cornmarket was very high church, an intimidating christening I would think.

Many thanks everyone. Just to clarify, it's the entry that appears to begin "St.." I'm querying, the lines above are Ann's parents and clearly say Great Malvern and Leigh. The fact that she has a different birthplae listed next to the ditto of Worcestershire indicates she was not born in Leigh.

It's interesting that the LDS reference says Ann was christened in St.Martin's parish (in the city of Worcester). I'm hoping that this 1851 entry might indicate her actual birthplace.

"Lt" rather than "St" - that's a thought!

Oxfordshire: SHAYLER, HERN,
Gloucestershire: MEADOWS, HERBERT,
Worcestershire: GRIFFIN, WOOD,
Denbighshire: WILLIAMS, JAMES, EDWARDS, DAVIES.

The christening was in July 1846, but I cannot see a registration in Worcester on FreeBmd but there was one in Stourbridge June quarter 1846.

It could have been a late baptism, there are other Ann griffin births in 1845, bear in mind that the birth should be registered in the district it occurs in, but the baptism need not be

Another thought occurred to me,it was not unusual for a new mother to go home to her moms to give birth to the firstborn, do you know where Rebbecca's parents were in 1841-1851.
