Burial John Marrey who died on the 9th March 1900 but where.?
« on: Monday 24 August 15 14:10 BST (UK) »
Trying to Locate a burial place of a friends Grandfather John Marrey who died on the 9th March 1900 aged 49.
His address at the time would have been Mill Lane Palmerstown-Clondalkin  Dublin.
John was an 'engine-man' at Stewarts Hospital and the family home at Mill lane was owned by Stewarts hospital which had to be vacated on Johns death.

I think the problem my friend is having locating Johns Burial may be down to the various spellings of 'Marrey'...some would spell it Merry-Marry or even Murrey.

There is an old grave yard in Mill Lane, Palmerstown. Palmerstown Tidy Towns have a Facebook page and I think they did some work on the graveyard recently. Might be worth contacting them.

Have you checked Cantwell's Memorials of the Dead available on FindMyPast.ie and in the National Archives and some public libraries?

Similar topic which may help the address here is Red Cow Cottages directly opposite Mill Lane.
This was part of my postal route from 1970 to 1988  from Stewarts Hosp to St Loman's Hosp which was the border line with Lucan.

Mill Lane is like a mini Knockmaroon Hill very steep incline had to have very good brakes on the rothar and winter time was a nightmare as when it froze it was like an ice rink, i dont know how Dan Kennedy managed to get his steel trucks up and down it.
Half way down there was a couple of cottages one occupied by Shanks Murray he was a bit of a character he brought me in one day to see his collection of antique clocks and i remarked upon his ceiling he told me it was originally an old tavern way back ,around the bend the was the terrace of cottages.
If memory serves me right this is them

Looks very like it Dathai, the other post with email details for Graveyards etc will come in very useful as my Friend lives abroad..hopefully he will make some progress...personally i wouldnt be fazed with the age difference in the 1860 birth and the age given when he passed away in 1900 (49)..we all know the problems associated with taking ages given/recorded as Gospel.
