Molyneaux and Joseph BELL - New York
« on: Tuesday 25 August 15 08:01 BST (UK) »
Regards everyone. I am seeking information on Molyneaux and Joseph BELL, born in Crumlin, County Antrim, Ireland who ended up in New York. I have a document dated Oct 30, 1871, where they and another brother William Robert of Nashville approve their mothers (Eliza Jane BELL nee MOLYNEAUX) will leaving her property in Ireland to her daughters Georgina and Anna Maria Emma BELL. The father of these five is Robert BELL.

Most of this family resided in Nashville and I have even found where they are buried, but the two brothers seemed to have settled in New York. Apart from the 1871 document I can find no further information on them.

If anyone can find anything else out about them I would be grateful.

CORMICAN - Crumlin

MATHEWS - Comber NI
TOLERTON - New Zealand

Are you sure they were born in Ireland? There's quite a bit of information available on a Molyneaux/Molineux  Bell of New York who was born either in Tennessee or New York circa 1825 of Irish parents.

I can see newspaper references to a Molyneaux Bell at Crumlin Academy in 1836, and there are New York naturalisation papers for Molyneux Bell from the UK in 1845.

Yes, Molyneaux BELL from Crumlin is the guy. I have seen that 1836 article so I know for sure he was born in Ireland. 1845 would tie up with the year his father Robert got out of jail in Ireland. What information do the naturalisation papers have?

I also know Joseph was a solicitor in New York. He came to USA in 1849 (his age is listed as 8y) on the ship "Elizabeth" with his mother and 6 other siblings, but Molyneaux was not with them, neither was the father Robert. So they may have come earlier, together.
