There seem to be two Molyneaux BELL's. One born in Ireland who naturalised in the USA in 1849. And another who was born in USA and became a military man. Or. They are the same man, and at some point he started lying about his birth. I would have thought the name was fairly unusual and it would be quite the coincidence to have two of them in the USA at the same time in almost the same place. Is it possible to prove the USA birth?

You didn't give a birth year for either Molyneaux or Joseph Bell ?

Joseph Bell born 1840 Tennessee - aged 34 years  marriage 3 June 1874 Manhattan NY - parents Robert Bell and Elizabeth Molynux (as it was transcribed) married Isabel Elizabeth Sturges aged 2 years

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01fzd/

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F64V-SLZ

Unfortunately the marriage announcement in the New York Times did not give details of any brothers or other relatives of Joseph.

There is also passport application for Joseph but no details of family contained in it.

The father of Isabel Sturges - New York Herald - 26 Nov 1895 -  James S. Sturges, eighty-four years old, a retired sugar planter, died yesterday at Long Branch, after a week's illness. Mr  Sturges
was born at Springfield, N. J., in 1811. He was the principal owner of the late firm of
James S. Sturges & Co., whose office was in South street, New York. Mr Sturges at one time was largely interested in sugar raising in Cuba and Louisiana. He retired in 1888 and during the last five years lived with his unmarried' daughter, Miss Susie Sturges, at Long Branch. The other children are Peter D. Sturges, of New York, and Mrs Isabella Bell, widow of the l a t e Judge Joseph Bell, of
the United States Court at New Mexico. She is now in Europe.

There's an obituary for Judge Joseph Bell in the New York Herald for December 29 1887. "Born forty-two years ago in Tennessee". Came to New York shortly after the civil war and served in the DA's office. Practised law in NYC for some years then was US judge for New Mexico.
