Many thanks to you all.

Trish 1120, You have my family in 1881 with the 4 children.

Now I have the marriage certificate of Robert Watson and Jane Waugh ( Field Worker, Spinster, residence as Morebattle ) from Scotlands People,However,

It does not give her father, space completly blank. Space for mother has :

Jane Waugh,
M S crossed out  then Field Worker
(deceased )

Robert Watson's parents are Thomas Watson and Elizabeth Douglas.
 Still a puzzle !!

Looks like she was illegitimate ? the nearest I could see in the 1861 census for a Jean Waugh b 1848 Yetholm Roxburgh age 13 Ag Lab;...address Rutherford Mains Maxton Roxburgh
Jean Waugh b 1830 Jedburgh age 31 Ag Lab ..

Think this might be the birth for this Jean
Jean Laurie or Waugh 9/5/1847 b Maxton Roxburgh
Father Laurie
Mother Jean Waugh

Would agree that it looks like Jane Waugh was illegitimate.
Rosie's find on the 1861 Census looks good.

There is however a family of Waughs on the 1851 Census living at Rutherford Mains , Maxton
  WAUGH   Robert   Head    M   59   Labourer In Cutting The Woods    Roxburghshire  Jedburgh       
   WAUGH   Anne   Wife      F   57       Roxburghshire  Jedburgh       
   WAUGH   David   Son      M   21   Lab Cutting & Clearing Woods    Roxburghshire  Jedburgh       
   WAUGH   Helen   Dau      F   18   Ag Lab Or Bondager    Roxburghshire Jedburgh       
   WAUGH   Robert   Son      M   15   Ag Lab    Roxburghshire  Jedburgh       
   WAUGH   Anne   Dau      F   11   Scholar    Roxburghshire  Bedrule       
   WAUGH   Janet   Dau     F   4   Scholar    Roxburghshire  Yetholm 

Janet Waugh aged 4 is recorded as the above couple's daughter but Anne Waugh is recorded as 57  :-\    . Not impossible I suppose but she could be a grandaughter :-\
Their children are all unmarried.

Same family I believe on 1841 Census at Newton, Bedrule, Roxburghshire.
Everyone has Roxburghshire as county of birth.

  WAUGH   Ann   F   40               
  WAUGH   Betty   F   20               
  WAUGH   George   M   15             
  WAUGH   Jane   F   14         
 WAUGH   Christian   F   13               
  WAUGH   David   M   10               
  WAUGH   Helen   F   9             
  WAUGH   Robert   M   7   

They have a 14 year old daughter Jane.
