Hi Spendlove

I have just been looking through the electoral roll and in 1932 a Jane Brown was staying with Kate Clark who was James Leslie Alderson's first wife Kate Budd.  Now in the 1881 census in the Rickett's household there was a Ruth Brown and Issac Brown staying there they were noted as the sister in law and brother in law.  So Ruth must be Leah's sister the wife of James Rickett!!

Well done you I am impressed however this still leaves the 'why and how' etc!!!

Hi,

So it looks as if we are on the right track, 1891 Census James & Leah Ricketts are living in
Denby Derbyshire with some of Leah's siblings.

James Alderson Ricketts, birth registered in Derby, however he was Bpt 24th April 1881 in
Denby as just James Ricketts.  Image on family search.

Hi Sue,

Think this is the Alderson Connection:-

Rachel Brown = John Alderson  Dec Q 1879 Derby.

Rachel is sister to Leah Brown = Ricketts.

In 1881 Census Cleckheaton, Yorkshire
Piece - 4429, Folio -79, Page -   28

Listed as Rashel Alderson   33   Born Denby Derbyshire.

So Leah named her son with the married name of her sister.

Just wonder why James decided to drop the Ricketts name.

Hope this solves part of the problem.
