Oh have just seen a note on a family tree about JW birth cert being under Whiting.  It says the parents are his and suggests as they were illiterate may not have known a mistake was made.  Something to consider.

Another thought if Thomas didn't die till 1894 could we find him on census in 1881/1891?

Possible boarder in 1881 think it says unmarried

1891
There is one with a wife Mary 26 and 3 young children.

Same occupation for Thomas coal miner.

Mary possibly is Wagstaff in 1901 which would indicate Thomas died but need to check marriages etc to see if this is your Thomas.

I think Thomas Whitehead age 24 b Barnsley, Yorkshire could be a boarder and miner  in 1881 in Barnsley - I think listed as single  RG11 Piece 4604 Folio 100 Page 43

Getting complicated but there is a birth for Lily Whitehead Wagstaff in 1887.  Lily being one of the children with Thomas and Mary in 1891.

Am thinking they didn't marry (shouldn't have anyway as Hannah still alive) and Mary reverted to Wagstaff as did the children on later census.

Got Thomas and Anne on jw baptism, and Thomas was 19 when he married Hannah. giving us roughly 1858 for Thomas birth and on his marriage to Hannah his father is John.
I think that somewhere on the way they all changed to Lowes and then it got confusing. ARGGGGGGGG. LOL

Could you contact the tree owner who has the possible birth certificate for JW?  Would be good if you could see it and see what you think  :)
