Hi
Yes I have Richard snr. Burial in Pensnett.
I am descended from Ann the sister of your Richard who was born 1805.
Have you looked at the 'Elizabeth Colley' topic I started ?  Keyboard86 gave me details of the 1840 burial you talk about her age was 71 ie DOB 1769 and address Sump Lane, Wombridge.
I cannot directly connect the Francis who lived there in 1841 to our side.
The only Francis I can find bn. 1787/91 nearby has a father Benjamin & mother Sarah ?
Regards,
robsdad

Hi,
Seems doubtful whether Elizabeth who died 1840 is our Elizabeth ?
What do you think in the light of Keyboards note re the burial details ?

Hi there tend to agree that she would seem quite old in her 50's to be having the last three children so yes I think Richard may have had another wife called Elizabeth. Its a problem sorting out the records when they tended to have the same family names. In my husbands family the names continue ie Tom, Ann Richard ,Jane, Martha, Sarah to this present day. Are your family still in the Shropshire area? My husbands family moved in the 1800's to Newport in S Wales and then to Sheffield for work. Please keep in touch and I will try to keep searching too ,hopefully we can sort out the mystery! I have found some records back to a John Colley born 1657 in Stoke on Tern who married an Ann and had a big family with all the names used in later lines but I need perhaps another 2 generations in between to try to match them up to ours. Not quite the correct way to work back to front? I have made a note as they may be use full at a later date. Cheers for now.

Hi,
I think you may be a little off with the age of the Elizabeth bur. 1840 at 71.
Assuming the last child was Margaret ( 1812 ) then she would have been 43
which would be OK.
However my problem is I have two other Elizabeths besides the one above born 1769 ( if the date at death is correct ! )
Elisabeth Challoner we know bap. 1772 in Stoke on Tern who I assume rightly or wrongly married Richard in Jan. 1788 at 15 or 16. First child Jacob Dec. 1788 . This is the Elizabeth I think died 1792 in Madeley.
The other positive listing is on the '1821' Wellington Parish Census which is the only census where Richard and an Elizabeth appear together viz.
Wellington - Ragfield
Richard Colley 58 labourer in trade
Elizabeth.       55
Elizabeth.       14
Jane.              14.    ( think this should be 12 )
Margaret.        8.

Richard's age looks right ie. Born 1763
Elizabeth's age means born 1766 older in fact than Elizabeth Challoner ?

So we have now three Elizabeths 1766, 1772 and 1769
Will we ever find out the truth ?
regards,
robsdad

Think we are all Elizabetted up ?don't you? Do you have Richards father as Robert Colley born 1720c in Morton Say married to Ann Dodd. They had seven children. They were married by lic 19/4/1748 in Nantwich. Robert died in 1785 in I believe Cheswadine.

Hi,
I have a note somewhere marked 'not definite' and cannot think where my information came from - need to sort out my filing system
Do you have the children's details ?  I have only Margaret 1756 & Edward 1758 both Stoke on Tern to a Robert and Ann but that is all.
You say there were seven ? please tell me the others.
