Elizabeth and John KEEPING were the eldest dau and son of Charles KEEPING of Boldre, Hants. The 1881 census gives Elizabeth, 18, and John, 16, as being born in Jersey. What I would like to know, if possible, is who their mother was.
Can anyone help confirm who she was please?
Charles was born abt 1833 in Hampshire either Beaulieu or Boldre.
There's a possible marriage for him in Lymington in 1852 to a Mary Jane NEW that may correspond to the Charles and Mary in the 1861 St Helier, Jersey census. Elizabeth and John are given as being born in St Helier in the 1871.
There's another in Poole in 1863 which also gives a Anne Maria KEEPING. Anne is also given as Anne Maria PEARCEY or PEARCY, which suggests she may be the mother
In 1871 he's in Boldre, Hants, a married labourer with Elizabeth and John but no sign of his wife.
He married Ann WOODFORD (b 1845) in Boldre in 1872. I don't have any further details of the marriage, just the 7 children from it. Charles last appears with his family in 1891, age 58, although Ann gives herself as married in both the 1901 and 1911 censuses.
