Horace Harcourt Dixon

Hi, May I refer you to this thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=656106.0

I have found the above records in newspapers referring to the sudden death of a Lieutenant Commander Horace Harcourt Dixon at Leigh On Sea in August 1931.
Chelmsford Chronicle - Friday 28 August 1931
Southend Police, called on Saturday to a houseboat on Leigh Marshes found Mr. Horace Harcourt Dixon, a retired naval officer dead on the floor. He had been under a doctor for a considerable time for heart trouble.
Northampton Mercury - Friday 28 August 1931
Lieut.-Commander Horace Harcourt Dixon, R. N. retired, aged 55, who lived alone in a houseboat on the marshes at Leigh-on-Sea, was found dead on the floor of his cabin by the police on Saturday.

I was wondering if there was an inquest into his death mindful of his cause of death? Thinking that a local library might help or local newspaper-can anyone suggest anything further?

Tom

A copy of his death certificate will show if there was an Inquest, name of Coroner etc., it will also show the cause of death.

Good idea, am sending for one to check to see if it is the right man though it would seem so.

The National Archives has his Naval history, gives date of birth as 30 August 1878.

Yes I know about that record, it's quoted on "Lives of the First World War", Ancestry has this record which I have used in my blog about the Dixon family-Horace Harcourt Dixon's application to be a member of the Institute of Engineers

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK
1906: DIXON, Horace Harcourt
Received 1 Aug 1906, Mechanical Engineer, 13 years in Total
President, Dixon Steam System Company 169, S Canal Street, Chicago, Ill. US America
88 St James Street, London, SW
Age 31, born 31 August 1876, Bournemouth

Free BMD has this record: Births Dec 1876   (>99%)
Dixon    Horace        Christchurch    2b   601

So only a birth record will prove it one way or the other.

nanny jan there wasn't an inquest; the death record shows that he died of natural causes, the coroner stated he died of heart disease after a post mortem with no inquest.
