Ann RUNDALL, Tavistock
« on: Sunday 30 August 15 16:19 BST (UK) »
I have been searching for Ann Rundall who married George Hamley  in Tavistock 21 Aug. 1784. At first I took her to be from Crediton baptised 23 October 1754 parents Samuel & Ann but on reflection this seemed to be unlikely because of the distance around Dartmoor. Thinking laterally I looked across the border in Cornwall & found Ann Rundal baptised St. Mellion 27 Dec 1760 dau. of Sampson & Grace & Ann Rundell St. Pinnock 20th Oct. 1765 dau of John & Grace. Ann died in St. Philip & Jacob, Gloucestireshire 6 Feb 1847 widow of George Hamley, Accountant age 85. While I accept that ages are difficult to verify if she was born in Crediton she would have been 93. I would appreciate any thoughts on this puzzle. Thank you.

I would be more inclined to favour:
Milton Abbot ( 6 miles from Tavistock) Ann RANDEL 8th Aug 1755 Dau of John & Elizabeth
There were RUNDELs baptising at Tavistock around that time - Roger & Dorothy.

Thank you very much for that information. Was there a non-con chapel at Milton Abbot? George was baptised in a Presbyterian chapel in Tavistock and they married in a non-con chapel?

There was a Presbyterian Chapel at Milton Abbot but not until 1803. George HAMLEY married Ann RUNDLE in the Church Of England.

Thank you once again. Yes, of course, all marriages took place in CoE  but their children were baptised in Abbey Presbyterian Chapel. I'm getting a better picture now. Perhaps I can find George's parents some day. Perseverance & detective work ! I suppose he might have come from Cornwall?

RG4/2030 Non-conformist registers: Abbey Chapel (Tavistock) Presbyterian baptism register. I've looked at a film of the actual register, but you can also see a transcription at https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NPWP-2SD
