Burial / lair records Ullapool
« on: Sunday 30 August 15 18:50 BST (UK) »
I was amazed to be told that there are no lair records held for cemeteries in Ullapool, according to the Council Service Point.
My uncle died in Ullapool in 1933, and my aunt died in 1955, but there are no records of where they are buried.

Hi heilanlassie,

If they have headstones you may find them here, scroll down for Lochbroom / Ullapool:

Having trawled through that whole site in the past, I don't think there are any headstones - that is why I was looking for lair records.

I was given a list from my local service point several years ago showing which (Ross & Cromarty) cemeteries had records available and which office they were kept in and I uploaded it to rootschat.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,114815.0.html

The list says that although there are no cemetery plans held for two of the cemeteries listed in Ullapool there are plans for one and records for all three. The list says all this info is held at Ullapool district office.

Contact details for Ullapool can be found via: http://www.highland.gov.uk/directory_record/477962/ullapool

Having said all that, I was given the list in 2005 and I suppose the records could have been moved. However, Ullapool office should be able to tell you if they have and where to...

Hope that helps.

Thank you for all that information, maclennan25, I spent a very happy afternoon yesterday, in the Ullapool Museum, where all the burial records are held.
Unfortunately, I still can't find the burial records for my great uncle and aunt, who both died in Ullapool.
Maybe they were buried somewhere else.
I did, however, find other records in the Museum that related to my family.
Carol.
