Looking for address in Llanelly
« on: Monday 31 August 15 17:42 BST (UK) »
Has anyone come across the name 'Hawks Villas' in their travels in Llanelly around the 1920's? My grandparents lived there when they were married in 1928. (Evan L. Evans and Annie Mary Evans nee Veasey) Any help appreciated.  :)

According to these unrelated snippets, there was a Hawks Villa in Mill Street Carmarthen,as in the street where Evan Ll Evans lived?

:) Roger you are a star. I have an address for the family at 11 Mill Street so this must be like a little terrace in which they lived just off it. Thank you so much for that.  :)

Thanks for that Roger, its quite interesting.  :) I wonder why houses in the middle of the street were called Hawks Villa though?   ::) I thought the 1911 records were all available now as well. I have been trying to buy an old map of Llanelly but have had no luck so far.  :'(

Take a look at www.old-maps.co.uk for OS maps. There is an 1888 1:500 map of Carmarthen which you can view to a limited extent before purchase.Use SA31 3AB as the search term and a number of historical maps will appear on a drop down list.

In case you didn't originally find Jones Place,in the 1901 census,at least, there is a listing for "Jones Place Quay" and it is listed next to "Jolly Tar Lane" which is visible on the 1888 map referred to,between Quay and Quay Street.

My great grandparents lived at 40 Mill Street around 1911 - funny to think they must have been neighbours and possibly friends  :) :)
Keddie, Hutson - Scottish Borders and Edinburgh
Menzies, Montague - Penicuik and Castle Douglas
McEvoy, Cavanagh - Ireland
