Re: Lucy Halpin of the Halpins of Wicklow

I have been reading with great interest the post for "Halpins of Wicklow part 3. What caught my attention is that a mention was made of an Anne Halpin who married John Wright in a number of posts. This in particular:
In the Feb 8, 1880  issue of the New York Times there is an obituary for Lucy:
Halpin- On Thursday, Feb 5 at the residence of her brother- in- law J. Wright Esq, Richmond Va. Lucy, eldest daughter of the late Rev Nicholas John Halpin of Dublin Ireland.

I am trying to verify if this Ann (Annie) is the same as the first wife of my Great Grandfather - John Wright who was born in England and married an Annie Helpin who died soon after they moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1875 from New York.

Any further leads would be greatly appreciated

Rebecca

Nicholas John's marriage is here
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/cf3b150552881
But none of his children's baptisms.
He did have four daughters and three sons
Charles Greham https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_John_Halpin
And a Nicholas John http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/clonmanybmdnotices.htm
This son is easy to follow but that's no use to you.

It's very likely one of his daughters was named Ann after her mother.

Hi Rebecca and Welcome !

Do you have the marriage of John and Anne ?

I'm imagining this would be easily answered by the cert ?

Tara

Anne (Annie) Halpin was described by Charles G Halpine's biographer as Halpine's 'aunt.'  That means she must have been the Rev. N J Halpin's sister.  Burke's provides no confirmation, but seeing that the Rev. N J Halpin's mother's name was Anne, or Marianne (nee Crosthwaite), the chances are that at least one of his sisters (provided he had any) went by the same name.  After the Rev. N J Halpin (b. 1790) died in Dublin in 1850, C G Halpine brought his siblings and mother out to America with him, and settled them in New York.  I believe they were initially taken in by their 'aunt Annie'.
