Ruthin workhouse 1861 census
« on: Friday 04 September 15 15:12 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have been trying without success to find the 1861 census return for this workhouse. I believe John Owen Anwyl was Master and his wife Ann the matron at the time. Their surname is often misspelt. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks Genna

Hi CaroleW

Thanks for the reply. I guessed that would be the reason but as almost all the records for the workhouse have been destroyed I thought it was worth the ask.

Thanks again

Genna

It seems he was there at least from 1860 - 1864.

His full name isn`t given and no mention of his wife, but it seems like a good bet it`s him.

Thanks very much for the link. I know he and his wife were Master and Matron of Northwich workhouse in 1871 so it's a strong possibility.

Many thanks Wilcoxon for all the information. The library of Wales site is especially useful.
