Trying to find any info of what ship my Gt Uncle James McCabe came out to NZ. He died in Auckland in 1862 was the editor of the Sourthern Cross Daily Mail. He had a brother Charles Martin McCabe (my Gt Grandfather) already in NZ.
Any suggestions of how I could find his ship would be appreciated

Hello TOTARA and welcome to RootsChat  :)

I've just spotted your posting in the completed section, easy enough for the board moderator to shift onto the general board though and I can see to that notification. You're more likely to get your post seen and some help searching on the active board :)

In the NZ Resource section, you will find links for shipping research, having a time frame for your great uncle's arrival is a help, obviously quite some time prior to 1862.

 :) mare

1857/1246   Rosina    Scullen    to James    McCabe

Cheers Janette

James MCCABE died very young, only 35 according to his obituary.

Daily Southern Cross, 20 October 1862, Page 3
DEATH OF JAMES McCABE, Esq.

Doesn't mention his year of emigration, unfortunately, or any family.

He appears to have in New Zealand by April 1857 prior to 31 December 1856.

Did Charles Martin MCCABE serve in the 3rd Waikato Militia, and did he die in 1881?

There is an entry for him in New Zealand Medal to Colonials 10th ed. (2010) if you would like it for your files.

And do you have James MCCABE's death certificate? This should mention how many years he had lived in New Zealand, and any wife and children.
