James McCabe may have been in New Zealand as early as 1853.

See the 'New Zealand Spectator & Cook's Strait Guardian', dated 12.10.1853. I'm assuming this list relates to unclaimed letters. "James McCabe Esq" is listed here.........

I have just visited the Auckland City Library and they had no info of him re Editor of the Southern Daily Cross Newspaper, thought I might of got something there

This article re Southern daily mentions a McCabe, as editor,  but no Christian name.

Modified to add - sorry, Senior Moment -  I didn't add the link, now I haven't been able to find the article, but see from the other posts that you already have a better reference!

Is it in papers past where I find the article it mentions of McCabe Southern Daily mail.

Thank you all have found reference to James in papers past. Iam just amazed by quick response.
I might just have accept that the ship he came out on is in the too hard basket at the present time, but as I know more and more info is coming on line.
