john marsden/marston murdered by natives

We regret to learn, that the black natives continue to show a hostile disposition, at least one particular tribe. Last week, within the short distance of two miles and a half of Launceston, on the   further side of the river North Esk, they attacked from ambush,   an old man named Marsden, whom they put to death.

Thankyou so much Dundee much appreciated. Was there a rebellion/battle happening at that time ? I'm sorry I know nothing about native history in Australia. When you say ship ,was that his transportation ship ?                                    kind regards Sue

Not so much open rebellion but more displacement anger. Being pushed off prime land , or even land that held sacred value can be disconcerting.

It would seem the Indefatigable is the ship he was transported on. I found this record
