McKay has 55 matches

McKay with "soundex" option has 158 (7 pages) cost of Indexes would be £1.61 BP which also brings up MacKay if there was a translation error.

Thanks, Annie. We have found a great old map and think we've got the area figured out (SC shows the birth registration as being in St. Rollox). Unfortunately we have combed the City Directories but see no 73 Albert Street. Stumped. But we'll take a look at the Margaret McKay entries you've found. Thank you for your time on this.

Katie.......

Have you seen this;

1925-26

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=730361.msg5753490

There's a Mrs Elizabeth McKay at 53, an Angus MacKay at 127 & a Jean Reid at 102

So nothing with the correct address for that era but Mrs Elizabeth may have been Margaret's Mother & moved  ???

Not much to go on & pure speculation.

Annie

You can always narrow down your search for St. Rollox where there's only 11 matches 1905 -1912

Just means you won't get as much for your £ if she was born in another area as Rollox will show on the original anyway with the soundex option

McKay with "soundex" option has 158 (7 pages) cost of Indexes would be £1.61 BP which also brings up MacKay if there was a translation error.

Katie, re Albert Street, did you find it in old maps? If not, some background notes on the street that help with this - http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/LANARK/2005-11/1131015962

Just as an aside, on the link above www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=730361.msg5753490 - the refs being made to 73 Albert Street I don't think are correct :-\  The numbers on the first column (where 73 shows) are simply entry numbers. The address/street number is further in the text. For example, here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=730361.msg5753584#msg5753584 - we are looking at VR entries for 117/123 & 127/135 Albert Street.

Katie,

There's a marriage for a Male McKay & Female Reid 1904 Glasgow City, District (Blackfriars)

This could be a red herring though but sounds good  ???

I have no area knowledge of Glasgow districts so whether that's near St Rollox, I don't know.

Annie

ADDED.............The female is coincidently Margaret.........parents possibly  ???

ADDED........The male is coincidently Alexander  :o :o

Below is the 1925 Valuation Roll for the property/house of 73 Albert Street, Townhead in 1925. The Stobbs ladies are the owners of the property. Don't think for now it adds much with the info we are working with so far...

We need really the specific VR entries from about 1922-24. People moved around a lot at this time  :-\
