Orange Lodge in Levenmouth...???
« on: Thursday 10 September 15 18:33 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have a couple of questions...

I am reliably advised that my Great Grandmother (Margaret Ann Cadden or Leggett), who came from Ireland, was a staunch member of the Orange Lodge. She died in 1937 in Leven and was apparently given an Orange send off.

I am also "reliably" advised that the attached photo is of her funeral...

Question 1: Was there ever an Orange Lodge in Levenmouth (I can only recall there being a Masonic one).

Question 2: Does the attached photo show an Orange Lodge procession, or a Masonic one...???

Hi Dougie,

(Bloosman)....don't think your g g/mother would appreciate that  ;D

There was possibly something in the local papers of the time for such a "send off" if that's the term you would use & would mention her relevant connection etc.  ???

Ladies orange Lodges started in 1909, this would explain the procession being led by women, also would children have been at a Masonic funeral?

Thanks Jennifer & Annie...

I've had it fairly well confirmed as being an image of an Orange Lodge funeral, likely of a female member...

My difficulty now is trying to confirm if it is that of my Great Grandmother...

On-line Newspapers aren't throwing anything obvious up, so I'll maybe see if the central library have copies of newspapers from then to check...unfortunately, her headstone is also missing from the cemetery.
