Cross Street Presbyterian Chapel, Central Manchester - Records Needed.
« on: Friday 11 September 15 22:40 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I have been looking into my Wrigley family of Manchester & have found the following:

My 4x gt grandmother Elizabeth Wrigley (1776-1832) married Samuel Dean (1774-1834) in 1809. Her parents (my 5x gt grandparents were James Wrigley & Elizabeth Miking who married on 30th Oct 1770 at Manchester Cathedral.

Elizabeth Miking (my 5x gt grandmother) (1744-1815) was baptised on 6th Jan 1745 at the above mentioned Cross Street Presbyterian Chapel to a James Miking (my 6x gt grandfather).

What I need however is the following if possible:

1. could sks soul look up the marriage of James Wrigley & Elizabeth Miking please? Lancs Parish Clerk marriages for Manchester Cathedral start in 1778 & I don't have any subscriptions at present.

2. I have found 3 baptisms taking place at Cross Street Presbyterian Chapel as follows:

Margaret Miking bapt 20th Jan 1739 to a Miking. (No fathers christian name given on familysearch)
Ann Miking bapt 13th May 1744 to a James Miking.
Elizabeth Miking (My 5x gt grandmother) bapt 6th Jan 1745 to a James Miking.

2a. Are there any other children baptised by this James? The above three are the only ones that show up on familysearch & Cross Street Presbyterian Chapel does not appear on Lancs Parish Clerk, nothing on FreeReg either.

2b. I cannot find a marriage for a James Miking at all, which possibly would have taken place sometime between 1730 & 1738 unless there were any earlier children. Did marriages take place at Cross Street Presbyterian Chapel? The Manchester City Councils website only shows details for baptism & burial records for this chapel. Can anyone find a marriage for James please?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

Hello,
James Wrigley of this parish and town of Manchester, Taylor and Elizabeth Miking if this town and parish of Manchester were married by banns published September 23rd, 30 th and October 7 th 1770, 30th October 1770 by me Humphrey Owen.

Both seem to have signed and the marriage was witnessed by Edward Beverley and Thomas a hulme who witnessed the other marriage on the page.

Boyd's Marriage Index shows a Manchester marriage for James Miking 1738 with spouse Elz Lunt.

That's the only information given.
