In 4 years have found nothing about Anne Campbell of Fermanagh
« on: Saturday 12 September 15 22:48 BST (UK) »
Hello,

My g grandfather and his 2 brothers have their mother listed on various documents as Ann McGrath, maiden name Campbell. However, I have never been able to find anything about her. I can't find her marriage or death certs. What I know is:

Married to Bartholomew McGrath (went by Bartly). He died in 1890 and was listed as a widower.
Children I know of:
Bernard McGrath 1850-1828
Patrick McGrath 1867-1906
Charles McGrath 1865- 1933

They lived in Carran Beg, Fermanagh.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RC marriages weren’t included in the statutory marriage records till 1864. This marriage evidently pre-dates that by quite a few years. So your only prospect of locating the marriage is probably from church records.

Inishmacsaint’s RC baptism and marriage records only start in 1847. I see from Bartley’s death index that he was born c 1814. So he and Ann may well have married before 1847. In which case, sadly there is unlikely to be any record of their marriage for you to find, assuming they married in that parish.

Thank you for your reply. However, it is Bernard's mother,Ann Campbell , that I am looking for. Her marriage to Bartholomew, if possible, and her death.

I see from another reply that finding their marriage isn't likely so can anyone help find her death? She appears to have died between 1867 and 1890.

Thank you.

Civil registration of deaths started in 1864. You can use the LDS index to narrow down the possibilities  then use GRONI to find the registration and view the certificate online.

Thank you. I have tried all this previously with no luck. Can anyone else find her?

Hi Gr8scot227,

There is a death record on GRONI for an "Anne Magrath", who died aged 64 years on October 14th 1887, in Belleek Sub-registration District, Irvinestown Registration District, Co. Fermanagh.

All the other possible matches (which there are few) are way too old to have had a child in 1867.

Best wishes,
Brendan

Thank you very much, Brendan. That could be here as she lived just outside Belleek. I will go look up the cert online.
