John Williams, bap 1826, Gnosall
« on: Tuesday 15 September 15 10:33 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
Seeking any information around John Williams, baptised in 1826, Gnosall.  Son of parents John Williams and Ann Cook.
Would ultimately like to know if this particular John Williams stayed in England and how I can confirm this or could he have migrated to Australia.
Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

The John Williams who married Elizabeth Fox in 1854 had a father called Arthur.  He also had a middle name of Skirritt (or similar)

Did the names John/Ann Williams nee Cook come from Australian Marriage/Death Certs for John Williams?

The only John WILLIAMS/Ann COOK Marriage I can find is after the 1826 Christening;
30 June 1828 St Marys, Kingswinford, Staffs John Williams/Ann Cook
(Familysearch.Org)

F/S has these Children to a John/Ann Williams in Gnosall;
JOHN, 17 Sept 1820 (likely died)
JOHN, 17 Sept 1826
MARY, 23 Sept 1832

If Mary lived she should have been easy to find 1841 Census which she isnt!
Well not with Parents John/Ann.

1841 Census
Gnosall, Staffordshire
HO107/974/5/Gnosall
John Williams, 45
Sarah Williams, 40
Mary Williams, 8
Charles Williams, 2

There is a CHARLES Williams Christened 10 March 1839 Gnosall to John/Sarah
No Mary to a John/Sarah

2 possible Marriages;
13 February 1837 Gnosall to Sarah LAWRANCE
7 February 1839 Gnosall to Sarah MALPASS (Parents JAMES Williams/THOMAS Malpass)
(doesnt state if he is Widowed)

1851 we have;
John Williams, 60, Head, Mar, Ag Lab, born Outwood
Sarah Williams, 58, Wife, Mar, born Gnosall
Charles Williams, 12, Son, born Gnosall

More questions than answers.

Trish :)

The Australian death certificate that I have for my John Williams has his parents listed as unknown unfortunately. On all of the certificates of birth for his children in Australia it states he is from Gnosall. It is on family search and find my past that I located the baptism details with parents John Williams and Ann Cook.

First time I know of him for certain is 1849 via a newspaper article. He marries his first wife in 1852.
