Descendants of Maggie Hickey Kilflynn first quarter of 20th Century
« on: Wednesday 16 September 15 19:56 BST (UK) »
Hi I am trying to trace the family of Maggie Hickey a 2ND (?) cousin of my wife. She was married to Michael Hickey but I do not know here maiden name. Her mothers maiden name was Boyle. Brother of John Boyle. They came from the Tralee, Kilflynn area of Kerry. Maggie (Margaret?) had 5 children. Michael, Robert, Mary, Maureen and Bridget (Bridie)who I am informed worked in the Kilflynn post office at some time. Mary her mother was born in 1873 from the records in Abbeydorne. She is on the 1901 census not married and with no children. It is possible that some of Maggie's children are still alive.
I cannot find any information on Civil or Church records regarding any of them other than a reference to a Mary Boyle being servant in Abbeydorne on the 1911 census. If she is the mother of Maggie she would be 37 at this time. Someone in Kilflynn must remember Bridie Hickey from the Post Office, it could be as late as the 1940s!
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Regards

Bit difficult to work out possibly dates for events from your post but there is a Michael Hickey and Margaret O'Sullivan marriage 1923 in Tralee district.

Hi Sinann
Thank you for your interest. I had seen that record but I need the Mary to be a Boyle unless for some reason her mother changed her name. I do have a possible marriage name of something resembling "Dowling". I am in touch with a family in Kilflynn now and it is looking positive (? wishful thinking)  that they may be related but not 100%. I have sent details to them and await their response.  I don't know how the Boyles could lose track of a Great Aunt no matter what the circumstances.

Ok, I thought you were looking for Maggie's maiden name to find Mary's husband's name.
Good Luck with the Dowling lead.

Hi
Thanks for the interest. I contacted the post office and by a strange coincidence the family who run the florist shop next door were the Hickeys.  The florist ladies grandfather had been the post man there. I thought this is great. I sent the info to them and they are looking at it but not confident now the information I had regarding Maggie and Michael is correct. The cousin who gave this information seemed adamant it was right. I will have to wait and see what the response is from the Hickey family and perhaps revisit the information with our cousin who after all was born in 1928 so may have mixed the families up...

have you look on the census you self

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie

came across a Margaret Hichey living with three children at 6 Glanballyma, Kilflynn living with the Hogan, says Margaret is married

If you were not in the house when the census people came you were not put on the census.

but when you look at the sheet it could be Hickey?
