blue quarries ?

Regarding G,G,G grandfather Thomas Johnson (shows as Johnston) born 1844 in sheriff hill gateshead, it shows some of his children were born in a place called (on 1891 census) blue quarries?? anyone know of this or where it was ?

There is some information on them in the Wikipedia entry for Sheriff Hill
Crabb from Laurencekirk / Fordoun and Scurry from mid Essex
