Mitchells, Naynors; Killucan, Mullingar area

Anyone have any connection to a Mitchell and/or Naynor family in the eastern area of Westmeath.  Many emigrated to NY in the mid 1800s.

Hi Tara,

Both, actually.  I finally traced my paternal grandfather, Thomas Mitchell back to the Killucan area, where he was barn to Thomas and Elizabeth Dunn.  His wife was Bridget Naynor (not a common name in Ireland I'm told) Her parents were Patrick and Julia.  They were also from the area......

I have been unable to find any other info..... I know here in NY they were poor and not well educated.     Do you know any Mitchells or Naynors????  Thanks

Hi
Ellen, Mary, Thomas & Andrew Naynor were born to Bridget Dunn & John Naynor in Killucan, so the surname Dunn appears in both sides of your Naynor/Mitchell line it seems.

Thank you for the info... any dates on the Naynors ????   My Gr. Gr. grandfather, Thomas Mitchell married an Elizabeth Dunn in Killucan.... so this fits..... do you have any knowledge of Mitchells ??   and depending on the dates.... Elizabeth and Bridget I'm sure are related in some form...    Thanks again... Bill Mitchell

Thanks to all for the interest and help.....

My Gr. grandfather, Thomas Mitchell, born to Thomas and Elizabeth Dunn was born in the Longwood area of Meath in 1845 (D. 1890).... I can find no siblings... he emigrated to the US in the 1860's to NYNY (with a Carr cousin) where he married Bridget Naynor (1846-1898) in the 1870's......... they had 5+ births.... one who survived (obviously) was my grandfather, James Mitchell.... who later married Ellen Costello from Cornamagh, Athlone.   I have recently been in touch with a Mitchell from the Longwood area..... any info is greatly appreciated.....
