A useful source of information that may be helpful to you is the Welsh Newspapers Online site. If you search using "basket-making" it will throw up almost 900 search results spanning the period from 1813 to 1919.

My reason for having an interest in this is that my great-grandfather was involved in basket making.

The Bath Chronicle newspaper issue of 28 April 1904 (image from FindMyPast) reported that my great-grandfather, Daniel Davies of Carmarthen (although born in Dowlais), was awarded a blue star for his entry in the basket work section of the Somerset Arts & Crafts Association's annual exhibition.

In the 1911 census his occupation is in basket making at the Welsh Industries Depot in Carmarthen where he was the manager of that section. Lodging with him at that time was a 20-year old Alfred Pearl from London, who was also working locally in basket making.
