Who was Hector Donald WARD .... there's more than one ....

There is a Hector Donald WARD’s grave in the Gorton Cemetery, Manchester, Lancs, England….  January 1920.

I have not found a corresponding civil registration of death for that Hector Donald WARD in the Lancs BDM, or the other usual indexes .... so I cannot prove that he was NOT the son of Alfred and Matilda.  Can you?

Yes,  I understand that your grandfather was buried in 1980.

But how do you know that

a) his parents were Alfred and Matilda

and

b) even assuming your grandfather's mum was Matilda  how do you prove her nee name was Benfold

and

c) that your Grandfather was born 31 July 1900,

and

d) that the UK birth certificate you have is actually for your own Grandfather.

In other words, how are you joining the dots back from your Australian branch to the United Kingdom ........

You see, once you have joined the dots, THEN you can work on the earlier generations, but UNTIL you have accurately joined the dots, your cannot confirm the names of your Great Grandparents.   Yes, they may well turn out to be Alfred and Matilda.... but as yet, on this thread ... well, as gently as possible, Martin .... you simply have not yet established that.

So, how do you know that the chap who married in 1927 in South Australia is the same person as on that birth certificate.

.......
From the Outward Bound passenger list for the Ballarat....
Re Contract Ticket Number 2143
Donald WARD
Last Address in the UK  81 Acacia Road, London E11

6 Acacia Rd, Leytonstone, Leyton

I f I remember correctly he jumped ship in WA in 1921 the Ballaret does not ring any bells, I think the ships name was Khyber.

So, to me, there's a chance that the Donald WARD on the Ballarat would be one of the candidates for your Grandfather .... but you have eliminated him ....

A question Martin,
The birth certificate you speak of having for one Donald Hector Ward,

Did your grandfather Donald Hector Ward, have that in his possession?

Was this where you got it from?

Or, was it acquired after his death as part of your family research?
