Northcott family of **St Giles-in-the Heath, Devon**

Hello Detectives!
I have two lots of Northcott's in my family tree, with one branch going back to 1649 to Lapford, the other I'm stuck in 1820's at St Giles in the Heath. Ancestry.com doesn't seem to have baptism - burial records as such for this area, So this line of my Northcott stops at 1823.

I'm keen to find out information on the family of

Richard Northcott born abt 1823 St Giles in the Heath (source from Census material)
Married Apr 1848 Holsworthy!, Devon to Grace Curtice-Edwards (1821-1893)

there Children are:.......
William 1848 m. Grace Crabb
Elizabeth 1852 m. ?
Mary Ann 1856
Martha 1856 m. William Northey
Jane 1862 m. Alfred Hucker **This family went to Canada.

in the 1871 census of of St Giles i located Richard and by change his mother was living at the same address as Martha Hockin/Hacking/Hocking? aged 70it would seem her husband died bef 1851 (per 1851 census) ive been unable to locate her marriages 1) to a Northcott and 2) to a Hockin

I did find a marriage entry for a William Northcott and Martha Weeks on the 31 Mar 1823 at St. David, Exeter, but alais im not sure if this is the one. It certainly ties in with the birth of Richard around the same time.

Other Northcotts born around the 1820's are as follows and im not sure if the are related

Pria Northcott c1820 St Giles m. 1848 to Elizabeth Northcott
Isaiah Northcott c1821 St Giles m. Elizabeth Down or Gerry
Lewis Northcott c1822 at St G
John Northcott c1833 at St G

Does any body have access to BDM Records for St Giles in the Heath perhaps this can help me

Hi it would appear that Richard was illegitimate:-

Birth Richard Northcott 3rd August 1823 St Giles in the Heath Mother Martha residence St Giles

Martha Northcott married a William Hockin 13th August 1833 St Giles in the Heath

John Northcott birth 12th February 1832 St Giles in the Heath Mother Martha

im blown away i never though of looking for Martha Hockin in 1841 census, tried every other scenario. So thank you, Are there any Hockin's / Northcotts buried at St Giles?

There is also Isaiah bapt. 30.4.1820. It says pauper under the fathers name but I think it probably means Martha is the pauper.
There is a death of John Northcott 15.5.1851. Age at death 19. This could possibly be John born 1832.

Could any body check if Pria born 1820 and Lewis Northcott born 1822 are illegitimate possible children of Martha?

Hi Isaiah Northcott married an Elizabeth Down 25th April 1848 Ashwater residing at Ash-Mill in the parish of Ashwater

PS The P***** Father, I believe is Putative Father defined as a man who may possibly be the childs father but who is not married to the childs mother

Hi I see you possibly have the 1851 census, but note Martha is now calling herself a Martha Northcott Widow aged 50 b Virginstow with a James Hockin aged 5 shown as lodgers with a Humphrey & Ann Martin at Church Town, St Giles in the Heath
