Ordering from Groni, nidirect, certificates
« on: Tuesday 22 September 15 03:47 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please tell me if the death certificates you can obtain when ordering online contain a copy of the original hand-written register entry? I ordered a death cert last year and it was all typed, which was a disappointment.

I just would like to be sure before I place the order. Thanks.

Rather than order the certificate (currently £15), you can search for the death registration and, once you've found it, select the "Full" viewing option which costs 5 credits (currently £2) - this will show you the necessary  extract from the hand written original.

Thanks. The thing is that I would like a copy I can scan for signature-comparison purposes.

The 'Full' online certificate is watermarked with 'GRONI - For personal use only'. So providing you don't publish it or sell it anyone else, I would have thought you could use Print Screen ('PrtSc' on my keyboard) and then paste into Word and print from there. Certificates from GRO's in England and the Republic are all photocopies these days, I would have thought GRONI certs would be too by now. No-one can afford to pay someone to type them out, surely.

Yes, I thought it was strange to have a typed one. I've decided to order it anyway, with instructions that I wish to have only a copy of the original handwriting. Here's hoping.

I'm not sure I understand, the 5 credit (currently £2) "Full" viewing option lets you see all of the relevant "original handwriting", why pay £15 for a certified / legal copy?

I want a printed out copy. The one I saw online couldn't be printed.
